The Clouds screen shows the list of all clouds in the account.

Many accounts will have only a single cloud, but you may have multiple clouds due to redundancy, isolation, or acquisitions.

Here, you can see the status of each cloud and when our last update was. Cloud Recommender currently attempts to update its data on a cloud once per day.

Clicking on the name of a cloud will take you to the Cloud Detail screen for that cloud.

Cloud Detail

The Cloud Detail screen shows additional information about a cloud.

  • Status, the most recent status of that cloud.
  • Last successful mining, the date of the last time that Cloud Recommender could mine the cloud.
  • Last successful analysis, the date of the last time that Cloud Recommender could analyze the cloud.
  • Monitor Role ARN, the IAM role that Cloud Recommender will use to mine the cloud.
  • External ID, the External ID that Cloud Recommender will use to assume the role.

The “Edit Cloud” button brings up a dialog box to allow you to change the cloud’s configuration.

The “Delete Cloud” button will allow you to delete the cloud and all of the data that we have collected for it. This action cannot be undone.

There are two operations that Cloud Recommender performs on clouds: mining and analysis.

Mining is what we call it when we connect to a cloud and collect information about it, including (but not limited to) instances, volumes, snapshots, and billing data. This operation may take a long time depending on the quantity of resources in the cloud.

Once mining is complete, analysis is performed. Analysis uses the data collected as part of mining to generate recommendations.

Mining and analysis are performed daily.
